Sara S. Poor Elected Second Vice-President of the Medieval Academy of America

Sara S. Poor (German) was recently elected Second Vice-President of the Medieval Academy of America in its 2026 governance election. In this position, Poor is slated to become Vice-President in 2027 and President of the Academy in 2028.

“Having been a member of this esteemed organization since I entered the profession, I am truly honored to be chosen by the membership to fill this role,” Poor said. “I look forward to the important work it will entail in promoting and supporting the study of the global middle ages in all their complexity and richness.”

Poor is an associate professor in the Department of German. Her teaching and research focus on gender, medieval and early modern romance and epic, mysticism, female agency, and the material history of the book.

She served as a 2024-25 Old Dominion Research Professor in the Humanities Council, during which time she completed her current book project, The Literary Agency of Medieval Women: Kunigund Niklasin and the Library of St Catherine’s in Nuremberg, which will be published by Oxford University Press in May 2026.

The Medieval Academy of America is the largest organization in the United States promoting excellence in medieval studies. The Academy is committed to advocating for the field and its practitioners, while “deepening, broadening, and sharing knowledge of the medieval past.”
