Elizabeth Bailey is a senior in the History Department, earning certificates in Medieval Studies and Hellenic Studies. For her thesis, she is studying Muslims, Jews, and Eastern Christians living under Frankish rule in the 13th-century Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. She wrote two junior papers: “The Role of the Islamic-Byzantine Frontier in Shaping the Tenth Century Byzantine Reconquest Period” and “The Beggars and the Souls: What the Sixteenth Century Debate between More and Fish Reveals about Changing Views of Purgatory.” She is especially interested in frontier communities, Muslim-Christian relations in the Middle Ages, and cultural exchange in the Near East.
