The Humanities Council’s Program in Medieval Studies and the Seeger Center’s Program in Hellenic Studies recently launched a new film series for undergraduate students interested in the Middle Ages and the Greek world.
The series opened with a screening of “The Last Duel,” on Friday, September 27. Students from both programs attended to watch the film with Eric Jager (UCLA), author of “The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France,” the book on which the film was based. Over lunch, students talked with Professor Jager about the process of adapting his book to the screen, and discussed the themes present in both versions, including medieval law, armory, and gender roles in the 14th century.
Medieval and Hellenic Studies will co-host three more film screenings this semester: The Last Temptation of Christ on October 24; Agora on November 14; and The Lion in Winter on December 5. All undergraduate students are welcome to enjoy dinner and a movie, and learn more about the requirements for minoring in these programs.
