This course will focus on the emergence of a ‘common’ (Koinê) Greek language adopted by an increasingly Hellenized eastern Mediterranean world of Jews, Pagans, Christians, Romans and Greeks. Readings include the Bible, Jewish Tragedy, Stoic philosophy, and hagiography, as well as introduction to papyri and manuscripts of post-classical texts.
