Seminar. Medieval Art: Collecting the Sacred: Mt. Athos in Princeton University Collections

Charlie Barber and Maria Alessia Rossi

Back to "Spring 2026" courses

Princeton University is privileged to have a number of significant collections that pertain to the monastic communities of Mt. Athos from medieval times to early modernity. Working extensively with these physical resources in the Princeton University Art Museum, Firestone Library, and the Department of Art & Archaeology students will be invited to consider the nature of collecting, the construction of an archive, and values that accrue to these objects from and about a sacred place.
