Meeting once a month, the Comparative Diplomatic workshop provides an informal setting for the close reading of documentary sources. Presenters circulate transcriptions, translations, and, where available, images in advance. Each session begins with a brief introduction to the sources and their historical context, followed by an open discussion that encourages questions, comparison, and collective exploration.
Meetings are convened by Thomas Conlan (East Asian Studies, History), Marina Rustow (Near Eastern Studies; History), Elena Shadrina (History) and graduate coordinator Athina Pfeiffer (Near Eastern Studies).
