Join curators of Creatures of Myth and Imagination: Europe and the Americas, on view at The Met Cloisters through October 18, 2026, for a discussion of this exhibition celebrating fantastic creatures made on either side of the Atlantic Ocean between 500 and 1500 CE. The curators will explore the project’s genesis and development and examine the joys and challenges of creating a comparative exhibition for a broad public.
Speaker Bios:
Julia Perratore is an Associate Curator at the Met Cloisters. Perratore is a specialist in the medieval art of southern Europe, with a particular focus on the Iberian Peninsula. Her research interests include artistic interactions across cultures, the interplay of art and environment, and the history of collecting and museum display.
Laura Filloy Nadal is a Curator of Arts of the Ancient Americas at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Born in Mexico City, Nadal joined the staff of the Michael C. Rockefeller Wing in 2022. Her current projects include the renovation of the Michael C. Rockefeller Wing, where she reenvisioned the ancient Americas galleries for local and international audiences.

Students and Faculty: If you wish to see the exhibition in company, seats for Medieval Studies will be available on a bus chartered for a class trip to the Cloisters on Saturday, September 26. The bus will depart at 10:30am from Wawa (152, Alexander St, Princeton) and leave from the MET Cloisters at 5:00pm. Estimated arrival back on campus is 7:00pm.
Please note that on this occasion attendees are responsible for purchasing their own tickets to the museum, and making provision for lunch. Tickets for NJ students are pay-what-you-wish: undergraduates and graduate students, please do not forget your Princeton IDs. Tickets can be purchased on-site, or online in advance. The Cloisters has a café, or you are welcome to bring lunch on the bus, or to eat elsewhere near the museum.
